Foreign Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion today announced the appointment of Ian Burney as Canada's ambassador to Japan, replacing Mackenzie Clugston.

The Canada-Japan Society of British Columbia welcomes Ian Burney to this key post.  We look forward to his leadership in moving Canada's trade agenda with Japan ahead.

With Burney at the helm, Canada’s trade negotiators reached the following free trade agreements (FTA):

Canada-Korea FTA in 2015

Canada-Honduras FTA in 2014

Canada-Panama FTA in 2013

Canada-Jordan FTA in 2012

Canada-Colombia FTA in 2011

Canada-Peru FTA in 2009

Canada-European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) FTA in 2009

Thirteen of the 26 ambassadors appointed in this round are women.
